Training

Yew Tree Canine Society .................now trains every Tuesday night at our new North Nott's venue in St Margaret's Church Hall, Aspley and every Wednesday night at our Northern venue in Inkersall nr Chesterfield.

We are lucky enough to have the use of a large, spacious and airy hall and a grassy area outside for training in the lighter and warmer evenings.

Puppy Training

St Margarets Church Hall......7.00pm till approx 7.45pm

The Inky Club.......7.00pm till approx 7.45pm

We here at Yew Tree know what a special and important time it is when   puppies first come to show training, which is why we have designed a class just for new puppies so they can take their first steps towards their show careers along with other puppies of similar ages. We feel it is important to have trainers who will go over your puppy with a calm and gentle approach together with a polite and patient manner towards our handlers. Training classes are also a great way for you to make new friends who share the same love and hobby, its great when you do start to show in the big world to have these familiar faces and friends at the same shows as yourself.

Training for the puppy class at all venues, is about 30 to 40 minutes, allowing you good time to get home for that last feed and hopefully a good night’s sleep but if you still wish to continue training then you are more than welcome to do so.

This class is open to all puppies from after their vaccinations; please could you bring your vaccination certificates on your first visit.

Junior and Senior Handling

St Margaret's and The Inky Club...approx 8.30-9.00pm

Yew Tree Canine Society believe that the future of showing and responsible dog ownership is in the hands of our junior handlers, which is why we promote junior handling and give them their own training class.

We have experienced handling trainers who oversee all the requirements of our juniors becoming good handlers concentrating on position, movement and knowledge of their dog. Many of our juniors have won their handling classes at various open shows and have even gone on to show at the handling finals at the Richmond Champ Show.

We are at present in the process of completing a Handling Booklet covering all aspects of junior and senior handling.

Anyone over the age of 17 that wishes to train for senior handling competitions are more than welcome to join in the class.

Show Training for all

St Margarets Church Hall......7.00pm till approx 9pm

The Inky Club.......7.00pm till approx 9pm

This part of the evenings training is open to everyone, depending on how busy the class is, we will normally have at least 2 trainers going over the dogs. The term "going over" is used in the way the trainer will handle your dog or puppy in a gentle and calm manner, the same way a show judge would in the ring. The trainer will be looking for, with their hands and their eyes, the dogs correct confirmation, its structure and then usually move onto another trainer who will be looking for your dogs correct movement and the way it is "handled".

On occasion we will have a training session which will consist of a show practice where we will go through all the aspects of being in a ring and what the judge will be looking for and finally a trainer will go over your dog, line you up ready to be judged and then a winner will be chosen, showing you where to stand at the finish. We are here to provide you with as much support and knowledge as we can, in a polite and pleasant manner but we really must emphasize that we are not breed specialist's but we are always willing to learn.

Help is also available in filling out and explaining schedules for people just beginning their show careers, and we also hope to get to be with you at your first show for that last minute practice and to be there for you to see someone you know at the ringside to cheer you along.

We look forward to the summer when a full size ring will be made in our own grass area which will assist us in the movement of our “bigger” dogs and to allow us to create a show scenario situation with mock judges and stewards………….roll on the summer!!

We hope that this page has been informative and gives you an insight into what we do but if you do have any questions concerning training then please contact us by-mail or come along and pay us a visit.
